Russia Sends Three More Ships in Mediterranean Sea

The Russian Navy is sending three more ships to the Mediterranean Sea, according to Ria Novosti.

The three ships, namely, guided-missile cruiser Moskva, the destroyer Smetlivy and the assault landing ship Nikolai Filchenkov, are expected to  reinforce the Russian fleet in the region from 7 to 10 ships.

The Navy reported that on September 10 Moskva had transited through the Straits of Gibraltar and that the destroyer is scheduled to join the rest of the task-force by September 16th.

Russian Navy’s commander-in-chief Viktor Chirkov said that the tasks of the ships are to avoid the slightest threat to the borders and national security.

The tasks are the same as that of other navies in the world pursued amid ongoing tensions or conflicts such as the one currently in Syria, he added.
