GDBIW to Execute LCS 2’s PSA Phase Two

General Dynamics Bath Iron Works has won a USD 9 million worth cost-plus-award-fee order to previously awarded basic ordering agreement to provide material and labor in support of the post-shakedown availability (PSA) for the lead ship of the Independence-class littoral combat ships, the USS Independence (LCS 2).

This order relates to the execution of LCS 2’s PSA phase two, and will provide labor and material support services for the vessel. Efforts will include program management, production supervision, temporary protection services and transportation services necessary to complete the PSA.

The 417-foot Independence is designed and built by the General Dynamics Littoral Combat Ship team. Independence is outfitted with reconfigurable payloads, called mission packages, which can be changed out quickly. These mission packages focus on three mission areas: mine counter measures, surface warfare and anti-submarine warfare.

The PSA stipulated work will be carried out in San Diego, Calif., with expected completion by December 2013.
