Indian Navy's First Domestically-Built Sub Ready for Sea Trials

INS ARIHANT

The Indian Navy will begin sea trials for its first domestically-built nuclear-powered submarine, INS Arihant, in a few weeks, as reported by the Zee News.

INS Arihant is a 6,000-ton vessel built under the Advanced Technology Vessel (ATV) project at the Ship Building Centre in Visakhapatnam, India.

Russia also assisted in the design of the submarine, but 60% of the submarine’s body is tribute to domestic know-how.

Assistant Chief of the Indian Naval Staff, Rear Admiral LVS Babu, said that the submarine successfully finished its harbor acceptance trials and is ready for the sea trials.

Commissioning of the submarine, which will be the first of the expected five of the class built as part of ATV project, into the fleet is expected till the end of the year.
