OHIO REPLACEMENT SUBMARINE
General Dynamics Electric Boat has signed a contract with the US Navy under which General Dynamics will continue development of the Common Missile Compartment for the Ohio replacement submarine and the UK’s Successor ballistic-missile submarine.
The USD 15 million contract will finance steam and electrical-plant components, main propulsion unit and shipservice turbine generator sets, along with miscellaneous hull, mechanical and electrical-systems components to support construction of the submarines.
The Trident missile-armed Ohio-class submarine will be replaced with the Ohio Replacement Submarine, which is a future US Navy submarine-class. The service life of the new-generation submarine is expected to be 40 years.
The work will include more than 4,000 employees, who will work on all facets of the submarine lifecycle.
