HMAS Albany Keeps an Eye on Offshore Oil & Gas Platforms

PRODUCTION PLATFORM IN NORTH WEST SHELF

Australian Navy’s ship HMAS Albany was busy at sea during the holiday season performing security operations in Australian waters.

The Armidale Class Patrol Boat was on a security patrol off the North West Shelf region, home to oil and gas resource platforms, which are of strategic relevance for Australia.

By engaging into this type of operations  Australian Navy’s ships can put to a test their skills of mutual communications, along with the envisaged procedures and protocols with offshore oil and gas platforms, the Navy explained in a release.

Commanding Officer of HMAS Albany, Lieutenant-Commander Rob Cucchi commented: “These patrols are a solid workout for the crew particularly at this time of year with prevailing weather and provide a timely reminder to the nation of the importance of this region to our ability to trade and therefore to our national prosperity and security.”
